Armistice Exhibition, Tea Party and Concert · St Mark's Church, Natland · 8th to 11th November 2018
In November 2018, St Mark's Church, Natland hosted a special exhibition to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armistice and the end of the First World War. The event, spanning four days, included a detailed exhibition of research into the local men who served, a community tea party, and a concert by a male voice choir. The church was decorated with poppies, bunting, and named tributes to the fallen on each pillar.
The Church
St Mark's Church was decorated with large poppies, Union Jack bunting, and a Commonwealth War Graves sign at the lychgate entrance.
The Exhibition
Inside the church, display boards presented detailed research into the local men who served and fell in the First World War. Artefacts included medals, military dog tags, embroidered silk postcards, a military trunk belonging to Q.M.Sgt Atkinson of the 1/4th Border Regiment, and a Victorian mourning dress. Named poppies hung from the pillars for each of the fallen, and a hessian poppy banner was displayed beside the war memorial plaque.

Named Poppies
Each pillar in the church bore a large poppy with the name of one of the fallen.
The Tea Party
A community tea party was held in the church hall, bringing together residents of Natland and the surrounding area.
The Concert
The church was packed for a concert featuring a male voice choir, readings by adults and young people, and a candle memorial arranged on a large poppy at the altar steps.
